Canon EOS 500D User Reviews

I have only had the 500d for a week or two now but I'm not disappointed at all. I decided to upgrade from my G10 to go for something a bit more professional as I mainly take landscape pictures and with 15.1mp they look absolutely great on my wall. I can't say I've experimented with the 1080p video yet as I need to upgrade my telly but it's given me a reason to go and buy one now :) Overall this camera has typical Canon build quality and plenty of features to keep me busy, a great buy!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this camera as what little reviews there have been all seemed positive. I've been a fan of Canons for years now, which also means I can still use all my old lenses:O). The camera sits nicely in the hands and starts up pretty quickly which is always a bonus. I wasn't too fussed about the video function but had a little go with it and it's brilliant! Great quality on my Samsung telly and I'm sure it'll come in handy in the future at weddings.

The 3 inch LCD is lovely and clear even in the sunshine which was a must for me. The 500D is also fairly light which is great as the lenses are very heavy on their own and it does your back in over a whole day! I bought mine with two 4GB memory cards, which were only about £16 each. An absolute bargain and I'm well chuffed with my Canon EOS 500D!

I bought the 500D on a friend’s advice, he's had a 450D for a while now and loves it. I have to say I wasn't too sure about spending loads on my first DSLR but the price compared to other cameras at this level was too good so I jumped in. I'm really glad I did as I love the pictures it creates and will last me for years. Once you get the hang of all the settings and how to use the camera it's brilliant. It's quick and easy and build quality is top draw.

I did a lot of research on DSLR cameras over the last few months and saw great write-ups for the Canons in the various magazines. As this is my first DSLR I wanted to make sure I got something that will last me as there is quite a steep learning curve from a normal digital. Many of the features I haven't even touched yet but I've had some great results with the Macro mode. 10 out of 10 so far!

I decided to take the plunge and upgrade from a Canon 350D to this 500D. Basically, I wanted more pixels so I can crop without worrying too much. The screen on the 350D is far too small for my eyesight as I'm getting old now! Lol. The 500 screen is super even when you hold it up high and the auto sensor cleaning means better quality pics for me!! Woo! The video works great but I don't really use it at the moment, maybe in the future. I did also have a look at the 50D but thought I'd be better off spending the money on a Speedlight 580EX ll which is really good.

I mainly use a Canon 18-200mm lens since I usually have the dog with me and his lead in one hand and the camera in the other. Changing lenses on the run with one hand is not really an option! The lens is easily good enough though. I've used it for all sorts of parties and functions and the pics always come out lovely!

The only thing with the EOS 500D is that if you are like me, constantly switching the camera on and off, then you need to be a bit careful with the function wheel. I almost always have mine set to AV and I've dropped the ball a couple of times accidentally knocking the switch to Manual.

All in all though I love it to bits, one of the best buys ever and I can recommend it fully!
